The Center for Longleaf Pine Ecosystems in conjunction with US FWS East Gulf Coastal Plain Joint Venture is hosting a meeting, "Carbon Sequestration in Longleaf Pine Ecosystems: Current State of Knowledge and Information Needs" on February 16-17, 2010. Information can be found here.

USGS Mapping Tools Available

USGS's National Biological Information Infrastructure - This is a good example of a clearinghouse for data and other information.
USGS's New Generation of Mapping Tools
The Land Cover Analysis Tool is an example of a web-based map viewer with analytical capabilities.

Updated Gopher Tortoise CCA

The Gopher Tortoise Candidate Conservation Agreement was updated in December 2009 to include new signing parties. The document is available for download on the Projects page.

Coastal Impact Assistance Program

The Coastal Impact Assistance Program will bring Alabama more than $100 million over the next couple years. All of it will be spent in the two gulf coast counties, one of which is in the gopher tortoise listed range and one in the unlisted range. Much of the money will be spent on land acquisition and related management, most notably for Longleaf restoration and gopher tortoise conservation.
